Kauri Tearaura is a senior organisational development leader with a proven track record of delivering people and culture change across the New Zealand public service. Their work spans inclusive workplace strategy, leadership capability, employee-led governance, and equity-focused policy implementation across agencies including the Department of Corrections and the Ministry for the Environment.Kauri has led high-impact HR and organisational initiatives that have shifted how large, complex organisations approach belonging, engagement, and workforce sustainability - often operating at enterprise scale and within politically and fiscally constrained environments. They are known for translating emerging trends such as AI adoption, changing employee expectations, and demographic shifts into practical, values-led people strategies that work in practice. Alongside their professional role, Kauri is a judge for the New Zealander of the Year Awards, recognising leadership, service, and impact across Aotearoa; a member of the Asia New Zealand Foundation Leadership Network; and a 2025–26 Obama Foundation Asia-Pacific Leader, contributing to global conversations on inclusive leadership and systems change. Kauri brings a grounded, delivery-focused perspective to the future of work - bridging strategy and execution, and challenging organisations to build cultures that are equitable, resilient, and fit for the realities of the changing workforce.
